Machine-free; because great cannabis cannot be rushed. Founded in the legacy market, these essential, hand-crafted processes ensure our strain’s best features shine bright.
Beyond THC
At RGB, minor cannabinoids like CBG or CBN and terpenes are just as important as THC. While all our strains contain at least 19% THC, our cultivation team is constantly working to develop greater terpene rates and push the bounds of lesser-known cannabinoids. Known as “the entourage effect,” minor cannabinoids and terpenes work together to produce spectacular results and effects.
Pheno-Hunting
Beginning with carefully chosen genetics, RGB’s mission to bring high-quality legacy cannabis to the legal market starts with seeds. Then, it carries forward into pheno-hunting and careful cloning for a consistent product whose features get better lot after lot. Many of our cultivars are “true breeds” meaning they’ve been inbred off a single, dominant phenotype resulting in superior genetics and a more consistent product.
The Last
Two Weeks
During the last phase of growth, we take another opportunity to deliver a premium smoke. In the second last week of cultivation, we “flush” our plants with nutrient-free, mountain-fresh water. The following week, we give our plants purified reverse osmosis (RO) water to remove any lingering nutrients and minerals. The result is a more even burn, the coveted “white ash,” a more robust flavour profile, and a cleaner smoke.
Hang Drying
On harvest day, plants are cut at the base of the stalk and brought to our 1,651 sq. ft. drying room. Hang-drying keeps the unique bud shape in place and potent trichomes from unnecessary handling. During this 10-14 day process, chlorophyll migrates away from the bud into the hard stalk, providing a cleaner, smoother smoke. As well, hourly checks on humidity and temperature ensure terpenes are preserved resulting in the layered flavour and aroma profile RGB strains are known for.
Hand-Trimming
After hang-drying for up to 10 days, each bud receives a careful manicure, a process that ensures each strain’s unique characteristics shine. Sugar leaves, fan leaves, and stems are removed from the bud, revealing colourful pistils and trichome coverage, producing a beautiful, sticky bud. While time-intensive, hand-trimming also ensures a more uniform moisture profile that works to combat potential contaminants.
Curing
After hang-drying, our cannabis embarks on another 10-14 day process called curing. Curing is essential for a clean, flavourful smoke and preservation of minor cannabinoids and terpenes. If overlooked, cannabis often tastes of hay or grass and can lose some of its potency. In a dark room inside air-tight glass jars, our team lifts the lid for a few minutes each day to allow moisture and co2 to escape, and oxygen to come in, a process called “burping”.
Hand-Packaging
Hand-packaging ensures everything that leaves our production facility in Sundre, Alberta, has been thoroughly inspected before being placed inside our air-tight container. This process ensures precise weights, eliminates the potential for contamination, and ensures hand-trimmed bud maintains rich trichome coverage only achieved with delicate handling. All our products come packed inside the Calyx Container, a biodegradable, recyclable and resealable jar.
Full Flower Pre-Rolls
All our pre-rolls contain high-quality flower; never trim or shake. We believe you shouldn’t have to trade convenience for quality, which is why we reserve our small and medium-sized buds for our 0.35g joints. Short, stubby, and finished with a twist, RGB’s “dogwalker” pre-rolls are the perfect size for single-use consumption and come in a resealable package.
